New Curbside Breakfast & Lunch Route

Responding to community needs, please note new locations for breakfast & lunch sites. Read More

Between March 16 and March 20, WCS Food & Nutrition, in partnership with WCS Transportation, prepared and delivered over 4,000 meals to seven school locations including door-to-door deliveries for families unable to drive to one of the site locations. Marci Franks, Director of Food and Nutrition, offered, "We are simply overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from WCS and the community in making sure no child goes hungry as a result of schools closing. To all who played a part in this, thank you so much for making it possible for our children to receive these meals." All children receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each day. Meals are available to all children up through age 18. Meal service will continue Monday through Friday until school resumes.

On Saturday, March 21, Marci Franks announced a revised plan for meal pickup and door-to-door meal delivery.

Curbside meal pickup increased daily and is expected to grow in the coming weeks. Beginning Monday, March 23, in addition to school sites, WCS will add ten new neighborhood sites.

Door-to door meal delivery is available to families unable to drive to one of the sites. Three dedicated routes have been added for this purpose only. Due to increased requests for door-to-door delivery, new procedures are now in place to expedite the process. Instructions with the link to a Google form have been created. The form provides necessary details including the USDA consent information each household must now provide.

As Marci Franks and her team respond and adapt to the needs of families in our community, site locations will be subject to change. Visit https://www.wcsfoodandnutrition.org/ for more information and forms.

Kindergarten students have been studying about flowers during our Green Energy: Kinder"garden" unit of study. Every child has investigated the shapes, colors, patterns, and design of flowers as they attract different pollinators to help flowers grow and continue to make more flowers. In addition, all students were blessed with a generous donation of daffodil bulbs from Wihebrink Landscaping Management. We were able to diagram the parts of a bulb and ask lots of questions about flowers that grow from seeds that we plant in the spring and flowers that grow from bulbs that we plant in the fall. Finally, kindergarteners went out into our garden beds and planted daffodil bulbs that we will anticipate their spring arrival by the end of the school year. Just in time for Mother's Day! :)
