Returning to school can be fun for children and parents, but it is important to remember that common health problems such as allergies and asthma can interrupt that fun and interfere with the learning process. It is estimated that 9 million children suffer from allergies and asthma. Symptoms can range from a minor inconvenience to serious health issues which can result in missed school days and expensive medical bills.

Washington Elementary was awarded an Innovation Fund Grant by the Indiana Department of Education . The grant has been used to create Washington STEM Academy. The Academy opened for the 2012-13 school year.
"This grant compliments the mutual interests of WCS and our partner OrthoWorx in establishing a STEM option that meets the aspirations of the Orthopaedic community in which we live," said Dr. Craig Hintz, WCS Superintendent. "the Innovation Fund Grant provides initial financial support to establish the foundation for an award-winning K-12 STEM choice in the school corporation.
